Before and After
(Final images on the way.)
an old printing press becomes a modern brewery with a nod to the past.
Things have changed in downtown Littleton since the 1800s when 5642 S. Sycamore St was the address of a brothel. The space morphed into an office in the 1940s and then again into a warehouse. In the 1980s, Nelse and Joyce Hendricks bought the property and operated a successful printing press in the building for decades before deciding their working days were behind them. They faced a quandry; they owned the building and wanted to keep it in the family. Their daughter, Lisa, and husband, Brian Wilke, were interested in opening a brewery. After all, they met at a brewery and both share a love for the science of brewing beer. The decision was made! Now the couple needed to change a print business premises into one for the art of brewing. They reached out to Mountain West Contractors and plans were drawn up. Tanks replaced printing presses. The front room was remodeled and decorated in a deep blue with copper accents. Renovations completed; the new building awaits…the beer. The Wilke’s have been hard at work on varieties like an oaked, wheated chardonnay, named “The Joyce” after Lisa’s mother, a Swedish lager “The Nelse”, a hazy IPA “The Lisa” and a golden ale “The Brian”. The couple plans to open this summer.

These here are the guts of the brewery. Clearly we haven’t finished installing everything but you know it’s a brewery when you see a fermentation vessel! Plus a couple of different angles on the entry/bar area including lighting. This area has a lot of character so these shots are fun in retrospect.
